Passion killing in Namibia free essay sample

Passion killing in Namibia has reached alarming heights rates and is constantly making headlines among the media. It has gotten so bad that it caused the President of the Republic of Namibia to speak up against these barbaric acts of violence against women by some men in our society. I will look at some of the causes and problems and try to find solutions to these passion killing. According to clinical psychologist Dr. S Whittaker (2013) the perpetrators grew up witnessing an abusive parental relationship and was abused as a child. Children who saw or were abused constantly tend to grow up and do the same to people, especially those close to them. This abuse if unattended to, can get out of hand and lead to someone being killed. Reverend Dr. N Nakamela believes one of the leading causes of passion killing are a lack of religious guidance. I agree with his statement, because religion is meant to keep us grounded and act righteous and with guidance from a religious point of view, I believe we would not be having such problems. We will write a custom essay sample on Passion killing in Namibia or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I personally believe that women can also be cause to the problem. Some women will be with a man and promise to marry him, only for them to break up with him after giving the man false hope of love and the status of their relationship. Such crimes cause economic problems in the country, tourists will not want to come visit our country when they know their lives will be in danger. Investor will leave or not come to Namibia to invest in our country as results of the crime rate being high. Politically we have a bad reputation in organisations such as SADC, AU, UN etc. All this can cause us to lose the support of the member countries of these organisation as well as foreign aid. Cobb (2001) suggested to curb this problem, parents must teach their children morals from a young age. I personally believe that bible study should be brought back in schools since it seems to have died out of the homes of many, it will promote religious education and guide people from a young age. The law should tighten the punishment of this crime, it should set a fixed amount of years for the punishment e. g 50 years or more. Only time will tell whether these acts of violence will subdue and slowly disappear or escalate to unbelievable or uncontrollable heights.
